A rainbow is a multi-colored, circular spectrum formed by the dispersion of light and water droplets. It is an optical illusion that is not really in a specific spot in the sky. The appearance of it depends on where you are standing and where the sun is shining.
You might ask, how does this relate to our world today? The importance of this is that what we see depends on where we stand. If you live in the Bahamas, how do you see your world today? If you live in flooded North Carolina or southeast Texas, how do you see your world? If you are living in a cage at the border, how do you see your world?
If you live in the White House, how do you see the world?
The White House may be seeing rainbows but much of the country is not. As President 45 boasts about the quality of one panel of The Wall and signs it with a sharpie, many homes in Texas sit under water. Flint, Michigan and Camden, New Jersey struggle to find clean drinking water. After the hottest summer on record, the Bahamas fight to rebuild as the US refuses to allow temporary asylum for those Bahamians that have lost everything.
There have been and will be many casualties to the heating of our planet, future environmental changes, global racist views, and discriminatory policies. One vision of our future may well be that in 50 to 100 years, if you have money and power, you will hop a spaceship to the next planet while others less fortunate are forced to stay behind and endure the mess that has been created. The fight for oil will one day vanish as we fight for clean water, air and civility. As the breeders of hate, the privileged will endure and continue to spin their web of hatred to yet the next planet.
We must work to stop those who want to whitewash and destroy our history and our democracy. We must fight to protect our earth. We must put our trust in true leadership that can take us from hatred and lies and guide us to hope and peace.
It is time to band together and protect each other and our Constitution as it was designed as a tool to shelter us from political lies, discrimination and politicians’ self-serving loyalties.
Let’s begin by envisioning what the future could be for this world and for those who live in it. Envision, Act, Hope, and Succeed.
