“I, ________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…” This week, the Washington, DC area had its first frost warning of the season. How fitting as Virginia was also included in that warning. This warning was an apt response to Tuesday’s Virginia elections and the results on the up and down ballots where Republicans overall took the win. Across the US, at least thirteen members who attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan 6th won their bids for election. DeSantis on the Loose – The Muting of the State

There is a joke that when the political toilet is flushed, it all flows down to Florida. So true and many vile politicians have already made it to Florida like the current Gov. Ron DeSantis. Little Donnie, as he is called, is backed by the “former guy” and has chosen to run “his” state like a Putin’s paradise. His regime supports the irrational “big lie” that the election was stolen and, under his rule, the democratic system is under constant attack. This includes his flagrant attacks on voting rights, assistance for those in financial crisis, the freedoms of peaceful protesters, rights of transgendered athletes, and that of local governments' abilities to make their own decisions. Take a Stand!

This is soon becoming the year where some form of daily blatant racism is demonstrated by several of our Congressional and State “leaders.” We see this particularly in the South with lawmakers embracing regulations to suppress the vote and deny the basic rights of freedom to black and brown people. We do not have to ask why the historic Jim Crow laws or Poll Taxes have become a recurrent topic of conversation in states such as Georgia and Florida. We remain genuinely concerned about hate groups that are rapidly growing in this country.
