So, Andrea said to Maggie, “How long do you think we can tone down our blogs?” Well, we found that it’s harder than we thought. This was pointed out by one of our readers after she read last week’s blog. And she exclaimed “Keep it coming!” And we will. We think that there is only so much kumbaya we can share during these times – at least until November 3rd. We will continue to deliver the truth from our personal and honest perspective.
The Democratic Convention blew our socks off this week! While the Democrats were busy trying to save the world, Trump continued to try and dismantle our democratic process. With only 76 days to go until the election, this is this week’s Trump Party News:
The day after the first night of the Democratic Convention, by attempting to steal its thunder, Trump announced that he was pardoning Susan B. Anthony for crimes she committed against voting in 1872. After casting her ballot in the presidential election, Susan B. Anthony was arrested, indicted, sent to trial, and found guilty of voting illegally as a woman. She was convicted and sentenced to pay $100 plus court costs. Yes, Trump, 148 years later, has pardoned her for actions that paved the way to the Nineteenth Amendment. How bold of him! Susan B. Anthony worked tirelessly on voting rights, women’s right to property, women’s admission to colleges, and anti-slavery. And she was the first woman to appear on a U.S. coin. I guess for his generosity, Trump will want his face adorned on a U.S. coin as well. Truthfully, we think that he would have better luck with the ruble, or he can make his own coins when he is in prison. Boy, you cannot make this stuff up!
The Pentagon established a new task force to investigate UFO’s called the Aerial Phenomena Task Force. What could be more appropriate of this Administration than to be chasing UFO’s and other planets to live on and destroy?
Pence and Trump pledged that they will protect America’s red meat from Biden and Harris in a speech to Iowa farmers. Really, I thought we were just going after their guns!
Trump plans to open up 2.3 million acres of land at more than 100 National Wildlife Refuges. Another distraction from the Covid crisis and more red meat and guns! And terribly sad for those animals they just have to kill.
The Mitch McConnell Senate went on vacation until after Labor Day while the postal, voting, Covid, and economic crises continue. By the way Labor Day was dedicated to the social and economic – mostly middle class – achievements of American workers. Oh, how one forgets!
More companies are now filing for bankruptcy, such as J. C. Penny’s, Neiman Marcus, J. Crew, Lord & Taylor, Pier 1 Imports, Stein Mart, Gold’s Gym, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, Pizza Hut, Wendy’s, and Chuck E. Cheese. And the list goes on… What part of making America great again does this fall under?
The children returning to school during Covid are being compared by VP Pence and the Administration to the “soldiers” who made the raid on Bin Laden. And Trump stated, “Only a small number of the children will die.” Is he kidding?
MAGA cakes shaped as red hats at a bakery in Albany set off a backlash resulting in dueling protests outside of the store. And now Trump is attacking the Goodyear Tire Company for refusing to display his MAGA hats. Golly!
This week, Trump put his support behind candidates who are right wing and QAnon members. QAnon surfaced in 2017 as a far right, hate group filled with violent, anti-Semitic, conspiracy theories. Rooted in distrust of the government, they believe that the government is controlled by pedophiles, and is a satanic child murdering sex ring, and a deep state. Their tag line is “Where We Go One, We Go All.” Well, you know where we think they should go! Can you see Hitler’s face when you read about this? Is there no bottom to where this wretched Trump and his supporters will go?
Fact checkers found that Trump has told 20,000 lies in his “Make America Hate Again” 3 ½ years in office. That is simply great, isn’t it?
Trump requested a mail-in ballot for the Florida primary while at the same time removing mailboxes by claiming that vote-by-mail is a fraud. No words for this!
Despite the outcry of the American people supporting the Postal Service, the US Trump-Nazi Party (Trazi Party) attempted to take a greater hold on the voting process by further defying the U.S. Constitution Article 1, Section 8. As part of the suppression efforts, the Postal Service started removing actual mailboxes in four states to reduce the number by at least 50%. In Montana, where the removal of mailboxes began, this was halted after an outcry from its residents and elected officials. The plan to remove the mailboxes in a handful of states is seen as an attempt to further interfere with the ability to mail anything, let alone ballots. Democrats have been working tirelessly trying to protect the voting process so that the American people can claim their basic democratic right to vote. The Postal Service said that they will review the operation of removing mailboxes again after the election. Right! If Trump ever read and understood the Constitution, he might appreciate that the eligibility to vote in this country is covered by the Fifteenth, Nineteenth, and Twenty Sixth Amendments. And, that these Amendments state that voting cannot be denied on the basis of race, color, previous condition of servitude, sex, or age for those above 18.
We would like to honor a special individual this week. He was born in Boston in 1706. He left school at the age of 10 and worked in his father’s candle shop and later apprenticed with his brother. He was a writer and ran away from home at age 17, ending up in Philadelphia where he became a printer. He opened his own print shop and published Poor Richard’s Almanack. His name was Benjamin Franklin. In 1737, he was appointed the Postmaster of Philadelphia. In 1753, Benjamin Franklin became one of two joint Postmasters General for the colonies. On July 26, 1775, the U.S. postal system as established by the Second Continental Congress, appointed Benjamin Franklinas its first Postmaster General. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of this country, became one of the Founding Fathers of the U.S. Postal Service. When leaving the position, he left a vastly improved mail system with routes from Florida to Maine and regular service between the colonies and Britain. The postal system that Franklin helped to build continued to flourish after he left and became a critical part of the new democracy and was a service to its people. That is why his achievements were honored by putting him, along with George Washington, on the first stamp in 1847.
It is said that Benjamin Franklin’s mind was never idle as he looked for ways to improve life in his times. Thus, he has a legacy of inventions, discoveries, and observations as he was an author, politician, inventor, scientist, civic activist, diplomat, and statesman. Among the many items that Franklin either invented, discovered, founded, or co-founded were the Franklin Stove, the 24-wheel clock, bifocals, the first public hospital, the first volunteer fire department, musical instruments, health and library aids, and more. There are so many things that he accomplished that there is a Benjamin Franklin Museum in Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia.
It is said that Franklin was wildly successful. If you had to compare the current President with the man who helped found the U.S. Postal Service, you can see that they have extraordinarily little in common. Trump’s future tiny legacy library will pale by comparison to the accomplishment of this unselfish man. But we are sure that Trump, looking back at Franklin’s accomplishments, will also want his portrait on a stamp. We would not be surprised!
Having worked the primary polls this week with the Florida Democrats, we can say that we have never been prouder to call ourselves Democrats. If there is something that you have been waiting to do in order to do your part, now is the time. No matter how small, it will matter – it can be a call, a contribution or sharing the word that you are a Biden-Harris supporter and why. Say it often, say it loud. Working together, we will change the world. Now go hug a mailbox for Democracy!
“It is the working man who is the happy man. It is the idle man who is the miserable man.” – Benjamin Franklin
We would like to dedicate this blog to our Uncle Will, an honest working man who has lived his 90 years of life caring for his family and others. As a teacher and school principal, he was always kind to his students and colleagues. He is a man of character who taught his students the truth and shared his heart while doing so. Our love goes out to Uncle Will.
